Guacamole
Ingredients
THE BASE
- 3 large, ripe Hass avocados
- 1 large lime, juiced
THE MIX-INS
- Small white or red onion
- ⅓ cup fresh cilantro
- 1 jalapeño or serrano pepper
- ½ tsp kosher salt
- 1 small Roma tomato
- 1 small clove of garlic
Instructions
1. Prep Avocados
- Slice the avocados in half, remove the pits, and scoop the flesh into a medium mixing bowl.
2. Mash
- Using a fork or a potato masher, gently mash the avocados.
- Don't overdo it—keep it slightly chunky for the best texture.
3. Add Mix-Ins
- Add the diced onion, cilantro, jalapeño, lime juice, salt, and the tomato or garlic if using.
4. Combine
- Gently fold everything together until well combined.
5. Taste & Serve
- Taste the guacamole with a tortilla chip (since the chip adds salt, too).
- Add more salt or lime juice if it needs a little more zing.
Tips & Notes
- Texture: Don't over-mash! Guacamole is a dip, not a puree. The chunks of avocado add great texture.
- Storage: To prevent browning, press plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the guacamole so no air can touch it before storing it in the fridge.
- Lime Hack: Before cutting your lime, press down on it and roll it back and forth on the counter a few times to get way more juice out.
